Les caprices du destin (2015)
Disease can have terrible consequences on a whole community, as we read in ‘La Peste’ by Albert Camus (1947). The first step of my investigation into the impact of this book focuses on catching the oppressive feeling that exists in a sealed off city. Having myself struggled with disease during my teens, I recognize the sense of isolation and fear. The opposition between mighty nature and fragile mankind may at times develop into unexpected calamities, these are the vagaries of faith (les caprices du destin). My personal translation of the emotional content in the novel was my primal research purpose. I developed my own visual story and made work inspired by someone else's written chronicle. The viewer is invited to add a personal storyline to these pieces.
